Ohio Financial Responsibility Requirement

It's common knowledge that you are required to maintain some type of financial responsibility when driving your car. Most people comply with this by maintaining auto insurance that complies with Ohio's minimum limits of $25,000 for personal injury and $7,500 for property damage. Alternatively, there is an option to deposit $30,000 with the State Treasurer.

If you don't maintain financial responsibility, you could be facing a suspension of your driver's license. There are 3 circumstances where you are required to provide proof of insurance: 1) When involved in an accident; 2) When you receive a traffic ticket; or 3) When you are randomly selected by the BMV to provide proof.
